Forgiveness Patch ~ 4
To ask if you had ever been hurt would be a silly question. Everyone in the human race has experienced hurt in one form or another from people they know or even people they don't know. Often it is the ones that we hold dearest that hurt us the most.
I know it hasn't always been easy for me to forgive. I have been hurt by those I know and by strangers throughout my life and have sometimes held onto that pain for years. When I was about 10 years old, I had a dog that I loved dearly. His name was Nikki. He was a brown and white St. Bernard mix. I had grown up with him, in fact I couldn't remember a time when he wasn't there. We lived on a country road in Missouri and people loved to fly down the hill in front of our house. Well one night a young man was out joy riding on our road when my dog Nikki was out. I don't know if he didn't hear the car coming because he was getting older or if the man in the car was just going to fast, but Nikki wasn't able to get out of the way in time.
I was absolutely crushed when my parents told me in the morning. And I HATED that man. I have to say that 28 years later I still have to tell myself to think kind thoughts about that man. But it doesn't matter if that man was going to fast and being careless or if it was an accident, because I "hated" him I need to ask for forgiveness, but in order to do so I need to forgive that man even if he has never and will never ask my forgiveness.
It doesn't matter who has caused us pain or how they have caused us pain, we must be willing to forgive them even if they aren't willing to ask for forgiveness or have unknowingly hurt us.
There are two examples I think of in the Bible of forgiveness being given before it is asked, the first one is when Stephen was being stoned to death. The Bible says:
"While they were stoning him, Stephen prayed, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” Then he fell on his knees and cried out, “Lord, do not hold this sin against them.” When he had said this, he fell asleep." Acts 7:59
The second example is when Jesus was hanging on the cross and He said:
"“Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”" Mark 11:25
Peter and Jesus discussed forgiveness one day:
"Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”
Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times." Matthew 18:21-22
I know it is hard to let go of the pain that people cause us sometimes, but Christ has forgiven us and expects the same of us in fact He said it very plainly in Matthew 6:15:
"But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."
Jesus loves everyone of us and wants us to be with Him forever. He can forgive you if you but ask.

Friend Patch ~ 2
So I have been thinking a lot about friends lately. I have had a lot of "friends" in my life. They have come and gone and some I dared to call my best friends. The amazing thing is they were the ones who hurt me the most. Why do women hurt each other so much?Wednesday, June 13, 2012
A New Patch ~ 1
I have once again changed the look of my blog, if you visited before you saw the wonderful spring flowers and the windmill gracing the background. Now my blog has a much darker look, not because I am depressed (although I have had some very strong bouts in the last couple months) but because the design is now comprised of 3 of my favorite elements, purple (my very favorite color), green (purple's best companion color) and elephants (just love them!)! I am going to do my best to keep up with this for the next 30 days and see if I can make it that far.
Now on to some more serious "stuff". Have you ever felt alone? You have everything you need, food, water, clothing, comfortable home and bed, cars that get you from place to place, spouse, children and pets...and yet there is this gaping hole in your life and you long to be whole!
This is the way I have been feeling for about 4 years. Oh I have put a band-aid over my hole but it never stays long and you have to keep replacing it with a newer more updated one. I know there is only one thing that can fill that hole in completely but how can I reach it a universe away? In reality it isn't a universe away I need only drop to my knees and cry out and He will be there.
Why am I so stubborn, why can't I just do it? CONTROL...I have to have control and dropping to my knees requires humility, it requires surrender and oh how difficult that is to do! This causes so much inner turmoil when you REALLY crave something. You can see it, you know it is within your grasp but you have to let go of that "other thing", that "something", that "anything", that "nothing" to reach out and take hold of it. From this time forward this is my journey to see if I can reach it. Can I let go and let God? He has promised me He will never leave me. Can I accept that promise, let go of what I struggle so ardently to hang on to, stretch out my hand and take the hand that has always been reaching out to me?

New Year ... Late Posting ... Another Holiday

Ok so here it is the new year and I haven't posted anything at all since last December!?! So am I really a blogger? I don't think it is a dedicated thing for me, I just post something when I think about it. I hope that I will get batter at it.
Can you tell by the redesign of my blog that I might be getting a little bit of Spring Fever?!?
So yesterday was Valentine's day...what does that really mean? There are too many theoretic stories to relate, but basically it is considered a holiday for those in love. But what does love mean? Does it mean buy your girl 1 dozen roses?...Not for this girl...I'd rather have Lilies! Does that mean buy her expensive chocolates?...Not for this girl, I worked hard to get that forty lbs off, I'd rather go to Sweet Frog! Does that mean go out and buy her expensive jewelry?...Not for this girl, I'll rely on what God gave me to sparkle!
My husband knows me very well! He knew I would like Lilies better, but that I hate when they die! He knew I wouldn't want the temptation of weight gain inducing sweets. He knew I would rather not have sparkly jewelry.
He knew I would rather have a really nice card telling me EXACTLY what I meant to him. He knew I would rather have something practical, yet enjoyable all rolled into one.
The point is he KNEW! He listens, he cares, he loves. That is what a BEST FRIEND IS! And HE is my Valentine!
****Just found this and must add that I know I am love like this! I am blessed beyond words!****

So What Is SOO Wrong With Soda???
used as a sugar substitute in some foods and beverages. In the European Union, it is
codified as E951. Aspartame is a methyl ester of the aspartic acid/phenylalanine dipeptide.
It was first sold under the brand name NutraSweet; since 2009 it also has been sold
under the brand name AminoSweet. It was first synthesized in 1965 and the patent expired in 1992."
Here is some information all about Aspartame. This is pretty disturbing to me and
I know my family will be avoiding anything that contains Aspartame like it has a plague!!!

You Reap What You Sow

"Good morning” said a woman as she walked up to the man sitting on ground.
The man slowly looked up.
This was a woman clearly accustomed to the finer things of life. Her coat was
new.. She looked like she had never missed a meal in her life.
His first thought was that she wanted to make fun of him, like so many others
had done before.. "Leave me alone," he growled....
To his amazement, the woman continued standing.
She was smiling -- her even white teeth displayed in dazzling rows. "Are you
hungry?" she asked."No," he answered sarcastically. "I've just come from dining with the president.
Now go away."
The woman's smile became even broader. Suddenly the man felt a gentle hand underhis arm.
"What are you doing, lady?" the man asked angrily. "I said to leave me alone.
Just then a policeman came up. "Is there any problem, ma'am?" he asked.."No problem here, officer," the woman answered. "I'm just trying to get this man
to his feet. Will you help me?"
The officer scratched his head. "That's old Jack. He's been a fixture around
here for a couple of years. What do you want with him?"
"See that cafeteria over there?" she asked. "I'm going to get him something to
eat and get him out of the cold for awhile."
"Are you crazy, lady?" the homeless man resisted. "I don't want to go in there!"Then he felt strong hands grab his other arm and lift him up. "Let me go,
officer. I didn't do anything."
" This is a good deal for you, Jack" the officer answered. "Don't blow it.."Finally, and with some difficulty, the woman and the police officer got Jack
into the cafeteria and sat him at a table in a remote corner. It was the middle
of the morning, so most of the breakfast crowd had already left and the lunch
bunch had not yet arrived...
The manager strode across the cafeteria and stood by his table. "What's going on
here, officer?" he asked. "What is all this, is this man in trouble?"
"This lady brought this man in here to be fed," the policeman answered.
"Not in here!" the manager replied angrily. "Having a person like that here is
bad for business.."
Old Jack smiled a toothless grin. "See, lady. I told you so. Now if you'll let
me go. I didn't want to come here in the first place."
The woman turned to the cafeteria manager and smiled....... "Sir, are you
familiar with Eddy and Associates, the banking firm down the street?"
"Of course I am," the manager answered impatiently. "They hold their weekly
meetings in one of my banquet rooms."
"And do you make a godly amount of money providing food at these weeklymeetings?"
"What business is that of yours?"I, sir, am Penelope Eddy, president and CEO of the company."
"Oh."The woman smiled again. "I thought that might make a difference." She glanced at
the cop who was busy stifling a giggle. "Would you like to join us in a cup of
coffee and a meal, officer?"
"No thanks, ma'am," the officer replied. "I'm on duty."
"Then, perhaps, a cup of coffee to go?""Yes, maam. That would be very nice."
The cafeteria manager turned on his heel, "I'll get your coffee for you right
away, officer."The officer watched him walk away. "You certainly put him in his place," he
said.
"That was not my intent. Believe it or not, I have a reason for all this."She sat down at the table across from her amazed dinner guest. She stared at him
intently.. "Jack, do you remember me?"
Old Jack searched her face with his old, rheumy eyes. "I think so -- I mean you
do look familiar."
"I'm a little older perhaps," she said. "Maybe I've even filled out more than inmy younger days when you worked here, and I came through that very door, cold
and hungry."
"Ma'am?" the officer said questioningly. He couldn't believe that such a
magnificently turned out woman could ever have been hungry.
"I was just out of college," the woman began. "I had come to the city lookingfor a job, but I couldn't find anything. Finally I was down to my last few cents
and had been kicked out of my apartment. I walked the streets for days. It was
February and I was cold and nearly starving. I saw this place and walked in on
the off chance that I could get something to eat."
Jack lit up with a smile. "Now I remember," he said.. "I was behind the serving
counter. You came up and asked me if you could work for something to eat. I said
that it was against company policy."
"I know," the woman continued. "Then you made me the biggest roast beef sandwich
that I had ever seen, gave me a cup of coffee, and told me to go over to a
corner table and enjoy it. I was afraid that you would get into trouble... Then,
when I looked over and saw you put the price of my food in the cash register, Iknew then that everything would be all right."
"So you started your own business" said the old man."I got a job that very afternoon. I worked my way up. Eventually I started my
own business that, with the help of God, prospered." She opened her purse and
pulled out a business card.. "When you are finished here, I want you to pay a
visit to a Mr. Lyons...He's the personnel director of my company. I'll go talkto him now and I'm certain he'll find something for you to do around the
office." She smiled. "I think he might even find the funds to give you a little
advance so that you can buy some clothes and get a place to live until you get
on your feet... If you ever need anything, my door is always opened to you."
There were tears in the old man's eyes. "How can I ever thank you?" he said.
"Don't thank me," the woman answered. "To God goes the glory. Thank God...... He
led me to you."
Outside the cafeteria, the officer and the woman paused at the entrance before
going their separate ways....
"Thank you for all your help, officer," she said.
"On the contrary, Ms. Eddy," he answered. "Thank you. I saw a miracle today,
something that I will never forget. And..And thank you for the coffee."
God closes doors no man can open & God opens doors no man can close..
Have a blessed day and remember to be a blessing...

Trust in Footprints
Footprints in the Sand
One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord. Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand. Sometimes there were two sets of footprints, other times there was one only.
This bothered me because I noticed that during the low periods of my life, when I was suffering from anguish, sorrow or defeat, I could see only one set of footprints, so I said to the Lord,
The Lord replied, “The years when you have seen only one set of footprints, my child, is when I carried you.”

"What if you woke up today with only....
But seriously what if? Have you been very thankful lately? Have I? I have tried recently to be thankful and content with everything that I have.
But what if you had a difficult day with your kids yesterday (or spouse) and got frustrated and forgot to thank God for the blessing of having them in your life........and you woke up today without them? Think hard .... how would that feel?
We have so many blessings, so MUCH to be thankful for! I don't think I need to list them all for you because I am sure your list looks very much like mine.
But I am reminded that I really need to stop complaining about things and wishing I had things that I really don't need! God has promised to provide all of my needs, and I need to be content and have faith that I have everything God thinks I need. And I need to tell God thank you. The first thing to be thankful for is that we don't serve a God who takes things away if we don't say thank you for them!
1 Thessalonians 5:18 "in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you."

Rejoice and Again I Will Say........
re*joice
-verb (used without object)
1. to be glad; take delight (often followed by in) to rejoice in another's happiness
-verb (used with object)
2. to make joyful; gladden: a song to rejoice the heart
Synonyms: revel, exalt, glory
So I ask you again, did you rejoice this morning? How different would our days be if we started each day with rejoicing in our hearts? No matter what is going on in your life you always have something to be thankful for. 1 Thessalonians 5:18 says "Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." In ALL circumstances this means when your child hits a home run, and when your husband cuts his toe with a hatchet. Now I know you are thinking the home run I understand, but the toe cut with a hatchet? How can I rejoice in that? You can rejoice that your husband still has his toe!
What is the longest amount of time you were able to rejoice? Did you know that God once told Israel to rejoice for 7 days? Leviticus 23:20 says "On the first day you are to take branches from luxuriant trees—from palms, willows and other leafy trees—and rejoice before the LORD your God for seven days." And Deuteronomy 12:7 says "There, in the presence of the LORD your God, you and your families shall eat and shall rejoice in everything you have put your hand to, because the LORD your God has blessed you." Because the Lord has what? Because the Lord has BLESSED you.
Have you ever rejoiced for 7 days? Have you ever rejoiced for 1 day? Have you ever rejoiced for an hour?
Philippians 4:4 "Rejoice in the Lord ALWAYS, I will say it again: REJOICE!"
This is the day, this is the day,
that the Lord has made, that the Lord has made,
I will rejoice, I will rejoice,
and be glad in it, and be glad in it.
This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it.
This is the day, this is the day that the Lord has made.
Thank you God for this day, for everything you have made, for everything you have blessed us with.
Celebrate the Small Successes
Change is never easy. I am trying to make changes in my home, both within myself and within my children. I have a quick temper, but I am begging God to give me a quiet and peaceful spirit. When in the heat of a struggle with your child that isn't always easy to grasp and cling to. Your sinful self wants to rail at the child and cruelly scare them into submission, but that isn't real submission anyway. To reign yourself in, speak to the child in a calm voice while being firm (which will go a long way towards helping your child understand how to deal with confrontation healthfully) is one of those small successes that I was talking about celebrating.
Here's an example:
You receive a gift of a beautiful vase. It sits in a place of honor for all to see. You have two beautiful, exuberant children who have forgotten once again that you have asked them not to throw balls in the house. The inevitable is about to happen. Crash! Your prized vase hits the floor and smashes into a million little pieces. Your spirit begins to boil, inside you are seething. Your children look at you with terror on their little faces. You have a choice right now; will you A). reach up to that shelf for that familiar old way of yelling at them and making them feel worth less than the broken article on the ground? Or will you B). say a quick prayer asking God to calm your spirit and help you let your children know what they did is wrong while still making sure they know they are valuable to you. When you choose B that is a success to be celebrated! You may still choose A once in a while but each time you REACH out for B, you are making the old familiar ways less familiar. More success!
If we don't celebrate each success, each small victory, we will continue to dwell on the voice that whispers to our spirits daily "you aren't good enough...you can't do this." These are lies spewed out by the Father of Lies. He doesn't want you to succeed, but Romans 8:31 says "What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?" And Jesus said in Luke 18:27 "What is impossible with man is possible with God." When we awake to the start of a new day our first thoughts should be of God and asking Him to go with us through the day. Our next step is to celebrate each small success throughout the day.
Thank God today with each little victory.

Sisters in Christ
God has given us women the special task of sharing each others burdens. So many times women cause each other the greatest pain. I myself have been hurt by many women throughout my life and it isn't easy to trust again. But I must say that in my dear friend I have finally found my refuge, my quiet garden.
I have a wonderful husband who is my best friend. And I love him so very much. I believe that God intended for husband and wives to be best friends, but I believe that He wanted women to share special sisterly relationships too. I can say though that I have found a woman who is my Jonathan. David and Jonathan were the very best of friends, more like brothers, and this is what I have with her. She is my sister in Christ and also my best friend.
I am blessed to be able to encourage and help her be confident in the tasks God has given to her and to help her know how incredible and beautiful she is. I am in turn blessed to be encouraged by her and experience the rebirth of trust.
Too often women develop only causal relationships with many women and don't really get to know each other and vow to stand by each other no matter what.
I know that we can't all be best friends, but I believe that there is at least one very special female friend out there for everyone and I am so very blessed to have found mine. And she is teaching me so much which actually enhances my relationships with other women. But she knows she holds a very special place of honor in my life.
God please let me honor you always as my #1 best friend, for without you I would not have this special blessing of my friend and my sister.
Light and Glory
One of the books we started reading recently is The LIGHT and the GLORY For Children: Discovering God's Plan for America from Christopher Columbus to George Washington, by Peter Marshall & David Manuel.

I never knew what kind of person Columbus really was. And it is amazing that our country ever got off the ground with all the things we went through in the beginning! I highly recommend picking up a copy and reading it with your kids today! My 6 and 10 year old kids love it.
